Bluestar Linux – Base-GMA3600-2013.06.20 – Release

bslx-desktop-1024x600The new 2013.06.20 Bluestar Base Gma3600 Edition has been released and is available for download. This release provides the following new features:

  • new kernel v3.9.6
  • bluestar linux bootsplash for installations
  • modified oxygen theme for kdm
  • added acpid, vbetool, gutenprint, unetbootin
  • syslogging enabled by default
  • syslinux splash
  • rf device fix
  • fixed double kmix instance in non-root desktop
  • new language/locale selection installer option
  • new display resolution selection installer option (1024×600, 1280×800, 1366×768)
  • removed openbox, catfish, deadbeef, dragonplayer
  • removed juk, kscd, spacefm
  • new ksplash theme (BslxLinux_Green)
  • first screen of installer removed
  • all software up to date as of 06/20

The screenshot above is taken from a netbook using an Intel GMA3600 graphics chipset. Its display resolution is the native 1024×600.

Next out the door will be the new Common Edition. I’m currently expecting that this will be a 2013.06.24 version and will likely have a June 27 release date. The Common Edition can be more or less characterized as a Full Edition, without the Developer IDEs and with most of the redundant applications removed. The new Common edition will provide users with the new v3.9.7 kernel and a minor modification to the Desktop – the gaudy power buttons in the right-most position of the system tray are being replaced with much nicer icons from the FS-Icons theme. I believe users should find these more to their liking.
